Zac + Ashley | Married

Getting to know Zac and Ashley was some kind of wonderful! Nathan and I drove down to Ohio University for their engagement photography in July and we are SO GLAD we did! They ROCK! Not only was the location perfect for them, it was also the perfect sunny weather! Learning how they met, and all the great times they had while attending Ohio University made me think, maybe I should have gone there… I thought: this is too cool. So it was with great excitement that I anticipated their November wedding this year – and I was not disappointed! Again, THEY ROCK! And it was even more fun to witness the many friends that made their time in Athens County such an unforgettable experience.

Jeremy + Talya | Married

Jeremy and Talya’s wedding was loads of great fun! It definitely was the craziest and yet totally fun reception I have ever been involved with! Everything was beautifully put together – down to the last detail. The richness of the ceremony and the wealth of family are too things I love about weddings in general, but with Jeremy and Talya’s wedding, it was what their wedding day was all about! Jeremy and Talya didn’t see one another until the official ceremony, and almost as soon as the ceremony was over, the party began! They both were whisked into the gorgeous reception hall with cheering to begin one of the longest, most hilariously, outrageously fun dance (or “horah”) I have ever experienced in my life! But seriously though…. it was like a “celebration” on steroids and I could not stop smiling, it was just. that. fun!

Mike + Katy | Engaged

I love Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens! So when Katy told me she wanted her engagement photography taken there I was ecstatic! It is absolutely one of my very favorite place to shoot in Akron. The reason they chose this beautiful location is because it fits beautifully with their Jane Austin themed wedding next June. We started out in a sunny, but very windy environment – dodging a couple weddings they were hosting on the grounds, getting as many fabulous shots of Mike and Katy as we could.

We ended the afternoon at a tavern in downtown Hudson – the location of their first date. It was so great to get to know Mike and Katy, to see their love – how Mike made Katy laugh whenever possible, and capture their togetherness. Here are just a few great shots of that fabulous afternoon! We are sooo looking forward to their gorgeous wedding. Congratulations you two!

Josh + Renee | Engaged

These two wonderful people were incredible to photograph! I am so tickled about their wedding next June I can hardly stand it! Not only was it a GORGEOUS day, Josh and Renée were the most fun-loving and easy-going couple! Nathan and I had a blast hanging out with them for the evening, we also got loads of gorgeous shots of their love and togetherness.

We started at an old run-down warehouse location in Cleveland. I loved this location because the age and architecture is so charming and the perfect backdrop for such a fabulous couple as Josh and Renée. Then on to a lovely light green fence and beautiful fall foliage; a location where the light just kissed them in the most beautiful way. (I had to throw in the poetry side of me =) Then around the building against the most lovely back-lighting and fun antique advertizement backdrop.

Per Renée’s request, we finished the shoot at the beautiful Edgewater Park in Cleveland. Ending the evening with the warm light of sunset. It truly was a beautiful day! So many great locations it was hard to narrow them down for a blog post (isn’t that always the case.)

Caleb + Callie | Married

I love weddings, that’s just a fact. It is just everything that a wedding IS that gets me excited to grab my camera and GO! The beauty, the energy, the emotion, and gathering of so many loved ones. Caleb and Callie’s beautiful outdoor wedding was no exception. The first time I met Callie was the day before the wedding. Nathan and I had traveled out to Carmel Indiana, where the wedding was to be, and met up with the bridal party at the rehearsal dinner. Callie gave me a big hug as soon as she saw me, and then proceeded to introduce me to Caleb and the rest of the family. Immediately I felt right at home. Their open-arms warmth carried through the entire wedding, with it’s ceremony of significant traditions and elegant country reception.

It really is beautiful, isn’t it? The way they love each other! From the first-look, until the moment they are running through sparklers, you can tell they are SO HAPPY to be TOGETHER! Together with each other, and with all their loved ones. That love and togetherness is captured in the images below – just a peak at all the lovelies of the day! Yes there are many more, too many for one blog post. Here are the highlights of some of my favorites, each image filled with all the love, warmth, and energy that made their wedding day just perfect!

Jeremy + Talya | Engaged

We met mid afternoon right down from Coventry Street in Cleveland Heights for Jeremy and Talya’s engagement shoot. Both Jeremy and Talya were very affectionate toward each other and it would have been hard to capture a bad photo of them, had I even wanted to! They requested the casual route of where they walk their dogs for an engagement theme that is my opinion was both sentimental as well as beautifully personal. These pictures are exactly the kind you want around your home – celebrating love.

Nathan and I so enjoyed our time with them! We got the best tip on where to go for dinner, Tommy’s restaurant on Coventry. I was especially excited about this because I heard they served Middle Eastern food! So off we went for some hummus and falafel right after the shoot! Thanks Jeremy and Talya – it was DELicious!

Sam + Lisa | Married

The first time I met Sam and Lisa was in Chagrin Falls at the Popcorn Shop for their engagement shoot back in June. I thought to myself: what a fun couple, this is going to be a great wedding! And it totally was everything I had anticipated and MORE! The elegant purple hues, the laughter of friends, and the richness of age-old traditions delivered a lovely wedding filled with everything it should be: warm, inviting, beautiful, and deeply meaningful. Having spent part of the spring of 2008 in Jerusalem, I had fallen in love with the people and culture. Amidst the joy and traditions of a wedding, this wedding gave wafts of remembrance to a place I hold very dear.

We were so grateful it didn’t rain! There was a 90% chance of showers during our pictures-taking hour! It was sprinkling right BEFORE the pictures (thus the umbrella in Lisa’s hands) and started again right AFTER the picture… {whew} it was close, but we were able to do all the pictures in the great outdoors!

Sam and Lisa and their families knew how to celebrate their union. I think it was part-way through the reception, right after the Horah, that I turned to Nathan and said: “Why didn’t we lift people on chairs at our wedding?” It was just. that. fun!

Mike + Christa | Married

So after we took all of Christa’s fabulous Bridal Portraits Nathan and I headed to the ceremony and reception location in Avon Ohio. Thanking God the whole way for the sunny skies, we were able to get some great shots of the bridal party and lovely portraits of Mike and Christa. How fun are the mustaches!?! I told you they would be making an appearance!

Brian + Mandy | Married

This wedding was such fun to shoot! I felt a little like I was on a college campus the way Brian and Mandy’s friends came around to support them in the celebration of their special day! I Looved the church they got married in, and the Medina Country Club was pretty much in my back yard. There is nothing like shooting a wedding with a happy, fun-loving group of people! I love “the party” part of the wedding and some people just know how to do it well.

Nathan and I no problem coming up with fun ideas and Brian and Mandy shared their ideas along the way! We had sooo many good shots, I just had to post my faves here. I have this habit of posting all the fun, laughter-filled moments… simply because – they’re my absolute favorite! Enjoy!

New Favorite: The Post Office?

Every once in a while I get the urge to visit the city. Any city really, it depends what I am in the mood for: shopping (New York), Theater (Chicago), Food (Seattle), etc… I love the city, it has an attractiveness that is entirely its own, and I love nothing more than an excuse to hop on a plane and fly somewhere! I live, however, in small-town America. I find this to be refreshing for many reasons, maybe it satisfies the earthy-simplicity part of me. Never have I had a “You know you live in a small town when….” experience like I did today!

In most places I have lived in life, the post offices was one place I did not enjoy going (that, and the BMV). It was full of people, there was always a long line in a tight space, and it usually smelled. However, not in my small-town America! Nathan and I have begun to develop quite the familiarity with our postman. He is always pleasant – always, and I get the feeling he makes more than just our day brighter.

Today, I walk in to the post office to buy a book of stamps. Knowing I am a photographer, he recommends the “Pioneers of America Industrial Design” set (see below) because he knows I am a professional photographer and there is one camera on the sheet… that’s right – ONE. I laugh, and say, “yeah sure, I like those.” Then, my jolly postman suggests that I could remove all the cameras from twelve different sheets to create my own camera filled sheet. I get a big grin on my face, hesitate for a moment, and then say, “Na, that’s okay.” I was thinking, there is no way in this busy world he wants me to stand here doing this! But I must have hesitated too long because before I knew it, he was pulling of all the cameras and re-assembling them himself!

This is not normal. I have my own customized stamp set! Wow.

And this – this, is why I love small-town America! I will always love visiting the city, but you can’t beat the charm of my tiny post office, jolly postman, and my own set of camera stamps! I don’t think I will ever look at my post office the same.
